Right Here, Right Now, With You. with Liam Webber
on Saturday from 13:30' - 16:00'
About the workshop:
In improv we talk a lot about connection and *being connected* and the benefits of it that flow freely into the work on stage. We enviously watch ensembles that have worked together for years, marvelling at the shared universe of understanding between the players that is the result of the hundreds of hours spent enjoying each others' company on and off the stage. In the best improv shows I've seen, I've found myself sitting in rapt wonder - not only at the content of the show, but the beautiful, chaotic harmony of a group that love playing together - thinking the whole time "Boy I wish I was up there too!
"So can we bottle that magic? Can we take years of shared experiences and distill it into some joy elixir? Find some human-to-human ethernet cable to boost our connection strength?
Honestly? Probably not
...And now I'm thinking about the practicalities of a human-to-human ethernet cable... Sorry about that...
BUT -- stay with me folks -- in my experience we can approach the work of becoming connected with purpose. An intention to understand ourselves and our partners in the moment that we find ourselves today. An appreciation for the uniqueness of *this* combination of people at *this* time which may never be repeated.
There's not really a substitute for sheer quantity of time together - the hilarious successes and heartbreaking failures that bind a team together and whose memories are etched forever into subsequent shows... But we can imbue what time we have together with a quality and energy that will help us to honour who we are today, where we are today, and help us to do the show tonight truly-together.
And sometimes, that's even more magical. There's no place I'd rather be, than right here, right now, with you.
