"Four Rooms" by Manuel Speck

August 30th - September 4th from 10:00' - 16:00'

About the workshop/showcase:

One hotel.
One night.
Four rooms and four completely different cinematic worlds.

In “Four Rooms”, we dive into an improvised universe inspired by the unmistakable voices of four very differnt filmdirectors.
Learn more about the following directors and how to improvise in their style:

Quentin Tarantino
Seemingly trivial conversations about everyday topics develop a dangerous momentum. We work on sharp, precise dialogue, coolness, power dynamics and the moment when small talk suddenly turns into a threat.

Wes Anderson
Detail-oriented characters, clear composition, and a very particular sense of poetry. We explore symmetry, narrator figures, delicate relationships, and the beauty of small but meaningful moments.

Greta Gerwig
Honest, vulnerable characters and relationships at eye level. The focus lies on friendship, family, self-discovery, and emotional openness – humorous, warm, and deeply human.

Bong Joon-ho
Subtle tension, dark humor, and moral dilemmas. We play politeness on the brink of collapse, social dynamics, fear, and loss of control – often quietly, sometimes uncomfortably close.

What to Expect in the workshop:

  • Working on clear characters and strong points of view
  • Improvising long-form scenes with a clear dramatic arc
  • Understanding different cinematic styles and translating them to the stage
  • Conscious use of dialogue, pauses, physicality, and atmosphere
  • Creating a shared hotel universe with recurring figures (including the page)
  • Preparation and presentation of a public showcase performance

Four Rooms is for improvisers who want to go deeper into character and mood, take time for scenes, and treat improvisation as a cinematic, narrative tool.
